We encourage all Habitat supporters (“Habitaters”) in Lloydminster and area to attend our Annual General Meeting, Tuesday May 25, 2010 at the Canadian Foresters Hall located at 4703 – 43 Street. Socializing from 6:30PM, meeting at 7PM.
At this event we will release our 2009 financial results, appoint our auditors for next year, report on activities past and future and election of officers.
Most importantly, the Mayor of Lloydminster, Jeff Mulligan will be at our meeting to respond to questions on Affordable Housing.

It is a great honor for our local affiliate to receive one of three Awards of Excellence. Annually, Habitat for Humanity Canada recognizes affiliates for extraordinary accomplishments in advancing Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing. This award was given in the medium category for cities with a population of 70,000 to 150,000 people. So we are honored to accept this award for our community of some 30,000.
Some of the milestones reached throughout 2009 that attributed to the reception of this award are:
Construction of three units for Partner Families
Adoption of a three-year strategic plan
Change of the board to a governance board
Approval & implementation of 2010 business plan
Signing of Adopt-A-Home agreement to build a Partner Family Home in Vermilion
Of the 73 affiliates across Canada, others to receive the Award of Excellence were Boundary, BC in the small population category, and Winnipeg, MB in the large population category. Last year Habitat built 194 homes in Canada, the most ever, and participated in an additional 380 builds through the Global Village and Tithing program. After 10 years in Lloydminster, we now have 5 homes with partner families. In the 25 years Habitat has been in Canada, a total of 1548 homes have been built in Canada, and an additional 1162 through the Global Village and Tithing Builds.

The Sask Government doled out $1 million to Saskatchewan Habitat for Humanity Affiliates. It is the second year we have received Sask Government funding. This could allow us to build as many as four units in the next year providing we get the land to build on. The terms of the agreement give us $50,000 for each home we build. Habitat Lloydminster will be holding 2 meetings on February 25, 2010 starting at 6:30PM. We will start with the Regular Board Meeting and the have the Special General Meeting at 7:30PM.
